Many of us believe that love is an emotional feeling that comes over us when we meet our “soul mate” and that this feeling will last forever. We may conclude that as long as the feeling is there that we’re “in love” and that if the feeling goes, the love goes.
It’s easy to love your partner when things are going well. The challenge is to keep on loving when it’s hard to love—like when you’re upset, angry, disappointed, feel betrayed, deeply hurt, etc. This is where commitment comes into play. It’s time to remember your marriage vows—that is, to keep on loving, trying, giving it your all, and doing everything possible to work things out regardless of whether or not you’re in “good or really bad times.”
