Really good marriage counselors may charge a bit more for their service because they’re good at what they do. The question is, what is your marriage and your family worth to you? Purchasing marriage counseling is similar to buying a new pair of shoes. You can buy a cheap pair but you’ll be disappointed. Spend a bit more money and buy a really good pair and you’ll be happy—most likely, for life.

Your Marriage Counseling Attitude Matters

Whether marriage counseling will work is also determined by the attitude of each partner going into counseling. If, for example, one partner blames their partner by seeing the marital problems as being entirely all the other’s fault and there’s no change in their attitude, the chances of the counseling being successful is greatly diminished. Couples who are successful approach the counseling from the perspective that there is something important to learn about themselves, their partners, and relationship skills. They take responsibility for making personal changes to their attitudes and behaviors by consistently following through in order to create more positive and mutually successful outcomes for themselves, their partners and their families.

So, will marriage counseling work for you? Most likely, yes. Do consider these two important aspects when making your decision.

    When taken very faithfully and with full commitment to change for the better, marital counseling will be successful in its purpose to make a couple learn a lot of things about themselves, of each other, and the relationship. I agree that a big investment should be done in order to get the best counselor.

    It’s a good point to raise that for counseling to work, both partners should help each other out, not blame each other. A couple must also remember that they learn how to do their part better to make things better. I believe that this is where helpful things like marriage counseling books come in, because these will serve as the couple’s guides to build their relationship again and make it stronger.
